Top 13 Results (On Two-Hour Delay)

Recap
I predicted a Bottom 3 of Malaya, Dexter, and CJ, with CJ going home. Emily was my bubble, much to Ed's chagrin. Ed thinks Emily is his new Haley Reinhart.

I'm writing on a two-hour delay tonight due to the BNL-Mitchell game. (Stars won. Woo!)

Also, we are viewing without Mom in the Cobb House tonight. Miss ya, Momma!

As is typical of results shows, I'll write in a "flow of consciousness" style, where I write what I think as I'm thinking it. It’s a little spastic, but I find it’s the best way to describe my initial reaction to the different elements of the show.

Idol Top 13 Results... GO!

Intro Song From Backstage
It was a little rough at the beginning, but it tightened up as the contestants actually got onstage. What has happened to my Malaya? I think she's overdoing it and just going WAY out of bounds.

After Show Film
That was neat. I liked watching them talking about the show and the fun they had. That kind of footage has the potential to help Idol gain viewers. Viewers love feeling like they're on the inside.

#Yo
(That was for you, Mom.) Randy is the new Jimmy Iovine. That bums me out a little.

Malaya B3'd
1 for 1. Her explanation was just what we Idol Watchers thought: too excited.

Five Things
I kind of liked that last night. Maybe I don't understand the difficulty level of this activity, but it seems to me that one could list five things about oneself in under 20 seconds pretty easily. I was surprised at the number of contestants who were unable to complete the task. Add one judge to that list. #Baby (Also for you, Mom.)

Candice Glover – "Cried"
Sam said, "This sounds like a song from the 90s." Pretty good assessment. The middle part with the 70s boo-WAH was a strange change in direction for the song. The most disturbing thing, however, was the giant graphic of Candice crying. I actually recoiled. All that said, she sang very well. She won Season 12 for a reason.

Dexter Safe
1 for 2. Darn. I hate being wrong. It happens a lot.

MK B3'd
Really? I didn't particularly like her song last night, but I could appreciate/respect her talent in her genre. I guess America didn't really get it. I didn't, either, to be honest, but I can tell she's good.

Jake Bugg – "Me and You"
When it started, I thought it was going to be one of those weird-sounding styles that I just don't get, like strange performance art. However, I got more and more into it as the song progressed. Really, though, who has the last name Bugg? I assume Ed's ancestors were cobblers... wonder what this kid's ancestors did.

Killer Keith
Keith, stop saying killer.

Five Things
Ah, Ryan. I have a feeling he knew that was coming. It sounded prepared.

#YoYoYo
I find myself wondering why Randy is serving in this capacity this year. Why didn't he just keep judging?

Kristen B3'd
1 for 3. Off to a great start. Not surprising, though. I said last night that I thought her performance was dated, and America doesn't like dated... unless it's cool-dated, and then it's called retro.

The Save
No way they use it this early.

MK Safe
Yay. I'd like to hear more from her.

Goodbye, Kristen.
I'm glad Malaya is safe. I want her to be able to redeem herself. Too bad for Kristen. She is singing her "Save" song (which is really boring), and she has a big ol' kiss print on her right cheek. Hee. The Facebook pics scrolling around her was a little weird. Is that a ploy to get people to vote?

Save Use?
No way. Not with that boring song. Ed just said, "See ya." They have to save The Save for someone who seriously needs The Savin'... and they do. Surprised she's gone, but I'm crying no tears.

See you next week!

  1. Im not cryin either Jo! She was out of control, over top and cartoon-y. I think that she's just not mature enough for the Idol stage.

    1. I agree, April. She reminded me of a less mature Angie Miller (from last year). I'm interested in seeing something new this year instead of copies of last year.

  2. I'm also glad Malaya is safe. MK is BORING to me. Pretty voice but seems so flat on stage. I think she will be in the bottom until she is gone.
